# Andor Polgar
I'm a Staff/Principal-level software engineer with 15+ years of experience building high-traffic web products used by millions of people. My background is primarily TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and React, with recent work focused on architecture, platform engineering, performance, reliability, and technical direction across teams. I work well in undefined problem spaces and have often been the person teams turn to when situations are ambiguous or high-pressure. I bring a calm, solution-oriented mindset to technical and organizational challenges, and I enjoy turning chaos into clarity.

- Created guidance for frontend engineers on reviewing designs, including when to challenge proposals to reduce unnecessary technical or UX trade-offs.
- Was the founding member of the team that oversaw the AI transformation across companies and teams within the group. We created training materials and held workshops across companies to onboard teams to AI-enhanced workflows.
- Evaluated SaaS and AI vendors with their sales engineers, assessing products and services across testing, metrics, A/B testing, and AI tooling from a technical perspective.
- Was involved in the preparation for the European Accessibility Act, helping define the engineering changes required for compliance.
- Interviewed staff and principal engineer candidates and contributed to shaping the hiring process.
- Served on-call for the group's primary revenue-generating platform, responding to and resolving production incidents.

### Software Consultant
Company: ikontent
Contract: Freelance
August 2022 - May 2023 · 10 mos
Location: Remote

I was brought in to support the adoption of modern web development practices within a team hesitant to move away from their legacy tech stack and workflow. I facilitated a shift from a build-and-handover delivery model toward projects requiring long-term maintainability. Introduced unit and end-to-end testing, gitflow, linting, type checking, established processes for reviewing and testing UI components.

### Staff Engineer
Company: Byborg Enterprises
Contract: Full-time
May 2018 - November 2021 · 3 yr 7 mos
Location: Remote

Following a group-wide restructuring, I was offered a remote position to help establish new mobile-first front-end teams in the group's Budapest office.

- Hired and trained new developers to work on the company's live streaming platform that served millions of daily visitors.
- Developed a fully mobile browser-based video call front-end with real-time, bidirectional audio and video using early WebRTC technology, when cross-browser support and stability were still major challenges.
- Created a browser-based, native-feel video player inspired by Instagram Stories, with custom preloading solutions that made switching between videos seamless.
- Led front-end modularization efforts across teams using microfrontends and module federation.
- Collaborated with the Head of Design on a new design system and component library, introducing design tokens and consistent grid/sizing conventions.
- Developed a shared UI component library that enforced SSR-compatible component patterns.
- Designed tooling and workflows for designers to review individual UI components before production.
- Was tasked to create a group-wide front-end engineering skill matrix for career management, covering levels up to Staff Engineer.
- Took part in organizing a hackathon, came up with the core concept that defined the main challenge.
- Served on-call for the group's primary revenue-generating platform, responding to and resolving production incidents.

### Back-end Developer
Company: Festbot
Contract: Freelance
Mar 2018 - Jan 2019 · 11 mos
Location: Amsterdam

Developed SaaS for music festival organizers and a Messenger chatbot for festival goers. The platform was tested live at major Hungarian music festivals, but deployment was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

### Senior Front-end Developer
Company: Docler Holding Amsterdam
Contract: Full-time
Mar 2017 - May 2018 · 1 yrs 2 mos
Location: Amsterdam

Transferred to Amsterdam after Docler suspended its Los Angeles operations. Helped establishing the Amsterdam office with the goal to attract and hire top engineering talent.

- Defined and gained approval for a strangler-fig migration from Backbone.js to React, then coordinated its incremental rollout across multiple teams.
- Negotiated deadlines and scope, and split work into parallelizable and indiviually deployable tasks.
- Served on-call for the company's primary revenue-generating platform, responding to and resolving production incidents.

### Senior Front-end Developer
Company: Docler Los Angeles (Docler Media)
Contract: Full-time
Jul 2016 - Mar 2017 · 9 mos
Location: Los Angeles

Transferred from Luxembourg to Los Angeles to support Docler's US operations, and the company's vision to build mainstream live streaming products based on lessons learned from monetizing adult content.

- Worked on several innovative products: Docler Music (a live platform for musicians), Streamago (similar to what TikTok Live would later become), Oranum (streaming platform for fortune tellers), and Stitch (a mobile app that anticipated Instagram Stories).

### OTT & Mobile Front-end Specialist
Company: Docler Holding Luxembourg
Contract: Full-time
Nov 2013 - Jul 2016 · 2 yrs 9 mos
Location: Luxembourg

Following a company restructuring, I was transferred from Budapest to Luxembourg to continue my work on OTT and mobile platforms.

- Developed low-latency live stream players for mobile browsers and smart TV platforms such as Samsung Tizen and LG webOS.
- Implemented fallback streaming techniques like continuous JPEG feeds, WebSocket and long polling-based image delivery.
- Optimized performance for embedded platforms with low-end CPUs and limited memory, working within tight rendering and execution budgets.
- Experimented with delivering live streams in early consumer VR headsets.
- Provided on-call support for the company's primary revenue-generating platform.

### OTT & Mobile Front-end Developer
Company: Docler Holding Budapest
Contract: Full-time
Mar 2013 - Nov 2013 · 9 mos
Location: Budapest

Joined Docler's alternative platform team in Budapest, working on early-stage development of browser-based video solutions for mobile and smart TV platforms. Docler Holding was a pioneer in online live streaming and owned one of the first and most visited adult live streaming platforms.

- Worked closely with video and backend teams to develop creative workarounds to enable live video playback on mobile and OTT devices that lacked support for Flash or the HTML5 video tag.
- Helped develop an innovative web-based UI for OTT devices, enabling seamless interaction using TV remote controls.

### Full Stack Developer
Company: Freelancer
Contract: Freelance
2010 - 2013 · 3 yrs
Location: Budapest

Built custom Drupal and WordPress websites for clients referred by Hungarian software consultancies, who frequently outsourced projects that were too small for their scale.

- Provided clients with hosting and domain management through my own cPanel-based setup, handling deployments, domain configuration, and MySQL database management.
- Proposed and developed a custom browser automation tool for scheduling Facebook page posts, using direct browser interaction before tools such as Puppeteer existed.
- Built a 3D perspective projection engine using the 2D HTML5 Canvas API, before WebGL was available in browsers.
- Developed a real-time parser for Hungarian election data to power live visualizations on a news site. Parsed schemaless and inconsistently formed XML feeds from the Hungarian National Election Office.

### Full Stack Developer
Company: Pre-professional Endeavors
Contract:
2006 - 2010
Location: Sopron, Hungary

Before entering the professional world, I worked independently on web and multimedia projects for personal contacts, school, and online communities.

- Created Flash intros and animated splash pages for the GeoCities websites of online friends and niche fan communities.
- Designed and deployed WAP-based mobile websites offering downloadable MIDI ringtones and OTA bitmap wallpapers.
